International Health Partners became operational in December 2004, sending its first shipment to Afghanistan. Since then, we have developed four programmes of activity, supporting over 500 medical projects in 92 countries with donated medicines, vaccines and medical supplies. In our seven years of operations IHP has sent over 15 million treatments with a value of £100m. Over the last seven years, 180 associations and companies had supported IHP by providing products, services or monetary donations.
The development of International Health Partners is based on a Canadian model that has been operating successfully for nearly 25 years and on 50 years of best practice in the USA. IHP is part of the Health + Hope Alliance which brings together the longest standing US medical NGO (MAP International) and Canada's single coordinating intermediary for medical donations (Health Partners International of Canada). Together we have country programmes or offices in 12 countries in the developing world.
IHP is also a member of PQMD (Partnership for Quality Medical Donations) which exists to raise the standard of medical donations, promote effective donation practices and inform policy makers and the public on quality donation practices.
International Health Partners is a new partnership in Europe, bringing together five different stakeholder groups: healthcare industry;medical Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs/charities/international Agencies); Government; the medical community and concerned individuals and companies who provide probono services and financial contributions.
In December 2011, International Health Partners was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation. This award would not have been possible without the support of all our partners.
Our Patron is HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales who became Royal Patron at the time we commenced operations in January 2005 and renewed his Patronage in 2010.
