In the developing world, one in five children do not live to see their fifth birthday and in many countries over 1 in 10 women die as a result of avoidable complications in pregnancy or childbirth.
The international community is rightly striving to create viable local healthcare markets, but this is likely to take decades rather than months, and massive challenges remain.
