About us
International Health Partners (IHP) was formed in February 2004 and received charitable status from the Charity Commission in August. The Official Ministerial Launch was held on the evening of Remembrance Day, 11 November, in the House of Lords. HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales agreed to become IHP’s Patron in January 2005. This new partnership is a first in the UK, bringing together five different stakeholder groups: government, the medical community, the pharmaceutical industry, NGOs and concerned individuals. IHP’s programmes will be introduced during 2005.
The development of International Health Partners is based on a Canadian model that has been operating successfully for over 15 years. Health Partners International Canada now works with the WHO, Canadian and foreign governments, some 80 companies, hundreds of non-governmental agencies and charities and several thousand medical personnel.
Since their first shipment to Iran in response to the earthquake there, HPIC has shipped over C$185m (wholesale value) of humanitarian aid to 111 countries in the developing world. In 2005 HPIC provided C$39.1m of medical aid, and in January 2006 it sent the 3000th physician's travel pack with a doctor to Kenya.
