DISASTER RELIEF

We coordinate the donation of medicines to disasters from the UK and Europe

IHP's first disaster relief shipment was to Afghanistan in December 2004.  This was quickly followed by medical supplies and medicines being sent to the Maldives and Sri Lanka following the Tsunami in December 2004. Since then we have been privileged to receive the regular support of over 60 companies from a dozen countries across Europe and North America providing donated medical aid to disaster situations.

By working closely with the World Health Organisation Health Cluster and international medical NGOs working on the ground in each disaster, we are able to quickly establish what medical aid is needed and inform the healthcare industry how they can assist safely and responsibly. We are commited to providing only what is required, free of charge to the people who need it most.

IHP has responded to disasters in the the following 22 countries:

  • Conflict - Afghanistan 2004
  • Tsunami - Maldives 2004-5
  • Tsunami - Sri Lanka 2004-5
  • Earthquake - Kashmir, Pakistan 2005
  • Floods - Balochistan, Pakistan 2006
  • Conflict - Lebanon 2006
  • Earthquake - Peru 2007
  • Hurricane - Nicaragua 2007
  • Cyclone - Myanmar/Burma 2008
  • Conflict - Gaza 2009
  • Cholera epidemic - Zimbabwe 2009
  • Tsunami - Western Samoa 2009
  • Conflict - SWAT/Waziristan, Pakistan 2009
  • Earthquake - Haiti 2010
  • Famine - Niger 2010
  • Floods - Pakistan 2010

  • Conflict - Libya 2011
  • Conflict - Syria 2011
  • Famine - Somalia 2011

  • Floods - Sindh, Pakistan 2011

IHP also works hard to respond to many smaller disasters that would not be classified as disasters in the eyes of the media and international watchdogs, but that merit our attention due to sudden and dire lack of medicines (where previously supply had not been problematic).
