At IHP, our mission is to source donated medicines and supplies to meet the needs of those who lack access to medicines and prevent unnecessary suffering.

Until now, all our efforts have focused on vulnerable people and communities living in countries overseas, but in these unprecedented times of global pandemic, the UK is one of the countries worst affected by Covid-19. Currently, we have the world’s fifth-highest death rate. This has included the loss of lives of our doctors, nurses and care workers, who are bravely putting themselves on the line every day to care for patients and are being put further at risk because of a lack of access to the PPE (personal protective equipment) they so desperately need.

Our corporate donor Medline has given us a shipment of PPE  which we had originally planned to send to a long-term humanitarian partner. However, new UK government export restrictions mean that, at the moment, we cannot send these donated items to our overseas programmes.

This week, through our partner Humanity First, we sent PPE to Airedale General Hospital in Keighley, West Yorkshire. Medline’s donation will help staff at the hospital to have the protection they need as they work to care for those infected by Covid-19. Thank you NHS workers for your work and courage.
