IHP statement on the renewed violence across Gaza

In response to the renewed violence across Gaza, International Health Partners issues the following statement

The recent bombardments across Gaza have caused devastating injuries and loss of life. We are aware from colleagues across the sector that the number of those affected is considerable and continues to grow.

We remain in contact with our partner staff who are still serving the hardest-hit communities, despite the escalating conflict they themselves face.

Gaza’s health service is already severely damaged, with no fully functioning hospitals, a lack of clean water, scarce fuel and diminished medical supplies. IHP was able to deliver shipments to affected areas up until the blockade, and has several more shipments in transit, but because all humanitarian aid into Gaza is currently cut off,  right now it is not currently possible to get further vital medicines and supplies to those who need it. We are continuing to support health services with the remaining dwindling supplies that arrived just before the blockade began.

Alongside the urgent need for acute primary healthcare, such as analgesics, antibiotics and wound treatments, there are patients with chronic, longer-term conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, in urgent need of treatment.

We stand together with our partners and join the international community in calling for a swift cessation of hostilities to prevent further humanitarian casualties and facilitate the safe delivery of critical medicines and supplies.

We must see:

  • Safe and unhindered access to aid and essential services in Gaza
  • The opening of all available border crossings to ensure a continuous and expanded flow of humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, and fuel into Gaza.
  • The immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

We pay tribute to the extraordinary humanitarian workers, their families and colleagues who continue to provide life-saving treatment during this time.

About IHP

  • For over 20 years, IHP has brought medicines to some of the world's most volatile places and fragile contexts. Since October 2023, IHP has sent eight shipments to Gaza.
  • Since the escalation of the conflict in October 2023, IHP has been one of only a handful of agencies that has been able to access the frontline with medication and medical supplies, working through a network of partners to send enough medical aid to treat over 670,000 patients. Our shipments have helped treat infected wounds, support mental health crises, deliver safe operations and treat chronic diseases like hypertension
